COMPANY AND POSITION OVERVIEW

Major Broadway theatre owner-operator is seeking a Head Carpenter to join our team.  

A Jujamcyn Head Carpenter is a key member of our team who oversees all carpentry matters within one of our theatres and supervises, manages and schedules the house carpentry crew for all load-ins, load-outs, work calls, restoration work, rehearsals and performances.  The Head Carpenter communicates closely with House Management and the Technical Director, Production Carpenter, and Stage Management for an attraction regarding all technical matters related to the physical set pieces/scenery, stage deck, automation, and rigging for that attraction, and oversees, and participates in the performance of, any necessary assembly, disassembly, installation, operation, construction, maintenance, and repairs related to those elements. 

You will be joining a high-energy, detail focused team that plays a central role in keeping one of our five theatres (the St. James, the Al Hirschfeld, the August Wilson, the Eugene O’Neill, the Walter Kerr) and the attractions playing there running safely and smoothly. You will work inside a collaborative, respectful, and driven company that's focused on providing the best experience for theatregoers and theatre-makers on Broadway.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

Job Skills

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Carpenter in the performing arts/live entertainment industry and loading in scenery and related equipment on site

  • Ability to read technical drawings

  • Knowledge of standard scenery construction practices and (wood and metal), and proficiency in the use and operation of saws, power tools, welding equipment, pneumatics, and hydraulic equipment

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.  

  • Ability to work comfortably at heights of up to 90 feet

  • Ability to walk up and down flights of stairs and stand for the duration of a shift

  • Theatrical rigging and set construction knowledge and practical experience 

  • OSHA 30 training certification

BONUS SKILLS IF YOU HAVE THEM

1 to 3 years’ experience as a department head or similar leadership role

Experience administering and managing payroll

Labor management skills

 

JOB HOURS

Must be available to work 6 days a week including nights, weekends, and holidays. 

 

JUJAMCYN OFFERS

Local 1 IATSE rates and benefits. Weekly Performance Rate: $2,589.05
