Head Technician, Laura Pels Theatre
Roundabout Theatre Company is seeking a qualified candidate for the Head Technician position at the Laura Pels Theatre. The Laura Pels Theatre operates under a Local One Off- Broadway Theatre agreement with Roundabout Theatre Company. The theatre’s basic house crew consists of a Head Technician, an Assistant Head Technician, and a Local One Apprentice. Pay and benefits are outlined in the Local One CBA with Roundabout. The Head Technician is an hourly position with a 40-hour guarantee for all work weeks at $38.44 per hour. The Head Technician installs and operates production equipment for all performances as directed at the Laura Pels Theatre. They are primarily responsible for scheduling and supervising all stagehands for crew calls on the Laura Pels Theatre Stage. They will work closely with the Production Manager on planning for upcoming crew calls and will follow through on completing all tasks assigned by Production Manager and Production Heads.
Position responsibilities may include:
Load-in, load-out, running, and maintenance of all productions in the Laura Pels Theatre (apprx. 2-3 Load-In / Load-Out Season)
House and building maintenance (i.e. painting, basic lighting and house repairs, etc.)
Running deck track for productions; assisting with scene changes and props moves
Basic carpentry for building maintenance and production needs
Pre- and post-show deck and prop preparation and strike
Assisting in servicing and maintaining fire alarm system in conjunction with fire alarm vendor
Assisting Roundabout Education and Development Departments with events
Act as departmental representative during all scheduled maintenance crew calls.
With Production Manager and Production Heads determine crew needs for all calls.
Book all Scenic stagehands for Scenic Calls & Load-In and work with Production Heads to
all scheduled calls (including subs).
Maintain a call list of stagehands.
Supervise assistants, apprentice, and extra crew members during load ins,
performances, and other stage activities.
Create accurate daily timesheets in accordance with Local 1 CBA for crew calls and
submit weekly for payroll processing.
Maintain production equipment and supply inventories.
Propose and implement ongoing equipment maintenance and improvements.
As directed, create and update departmental maintenance records.
With Production Manager, plan and implement prep for upcoming load in’s.
Oversee house maintenance, including seating and lighting
Perform other departmental duties as required.
Qualified candidates must:
Have experience working in all aspects of stage-craft (i.e. props, carpentry, electrics)
Have experience running and basic programming of an ETC Ion console
Have experience operating Q-Lab system
Have experience hanging, rigging, focusing, and maintaining moving and conventional
light fixtures and theatrical lighting equipment
Possess basic carpentry and rigging skills
Possess basic electrical knowledge
Possess familiarity and comfort with power tools
Be able to work at heights in a personnel lift, on a pipe grid, and on catwalks
2 – 3 years professional experience in similar position in similar work situation;

Computer literacy; Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Windows
Working knowledge of technical production systems; ETC Lighting Systems, ETC Ion,
Theatrical Rigging, Chain Hoist and Truss Rigging, Stage Carpentry, Basic Audio Signal Flow/Install, Basic Video Install/signal flow.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
● Previous IATSE supervision experience.
